Gahpir - Earflap Hat - English Pattern

In Sámi clothing traditions, there are many beautiful types of headwear. With Gahpir, I wanted to create a design inspired by a type of hat traditionally worn by women in several areas of Sápmi. It is a close-fitting hat with ear flaps that are tied with bands under the chin, making it both warm and practical for spending time outdoors during winter.

The pattern motif used on the hat is from the book Samevotter fra Tanadalen – Deanuleagi sámefáhcat by Kirsti-Synnøve Suongir.

Suggested needles: 5 mm needles and 4 mm crochet hook

Gauge: 16 sts = 10 cm

Circumference: 48 (55) 60 cm (before felting)
