Gárasavvon is a colorful sweater inspired by the patterns found in traditional Sámi mittens from Karesuando, the northernmost town in Sweden.
Small-patterned mittens with decorative borders or bands are common in several areas of Sápmi, and these same borders often appear in local weaving traditions. The Karesuando mitten is distinctive because the pattern repeats regularly across the entire mitten. It is traditionally knitted with a red background color, combined with blue, yellow, and green, colors often seen in Sámi duodji (traditional Sámi handicraft).
